4 Things to Know This Week - July 5

1. SUMMER HOT DOG ROAST - You are invited to join us for our annual Summer Hot Dog Roast immediately following our 10:30AM worship service. The church will be providing the hot dogs, condiments, table service, and beverages. Plan on bringing a yummy salad or dessert to share!  All are welcome to join us! Hope to see you there!

2. 5TH SUNDAY WORSHIP - We are planning to have the Oasis children worship with their parents on months which have a 5th Sunday.  This gives both teachers and children a break.  We will have "Busy Bags" available if your child needs them.  We will also have a special time for the children during the service.

July 5, Women's Bible Study, 10:30AM.  We continue in "1000 Gifts" by Ann Voskamp.
July 5, Wednesday Night Bible Study, 6:45PM.

  • Pray for growing numbers of house churches to affect the grip of communism.
  • Pray for evangelism and discipleship of Cuban expatriates around the world.

Sometimes Less is Better!

Sometimes less is better!   We are updating our website over the next few weeks to make it more simple and useful, especially for guests checking out Celebration.  In light of this, we hope to make the mid-week email friendly and useful too.  This email and those to come will have 3-4 things to know for the week.  Any more than that means we need to send out special carrier pigeons!  Thanks for staying up-to-date with what is happening at Celebration.

Celebration Midweek - June 21

Father's Day Thank Yous! - Congratulations to Don Strousse who got to sit in the La-Z-Boy chair during the service this past Sunday.  I am sure there will be calls for making this a monthly occurance!  Big thanks to Dan Langlois and Bob Dunning for helping with the arrangements!  Also, thanks to the Fellowship Team which organized the Straberry Shortcake Festival after church.  It was soooo good!

Father's Day La-Z-Boy Raffle

FATHER'S DAY LA-Z-BOY RAFFLE - During the service this Sunday, we will have a raffle for all men!  (Fathers, fathers to be, people who have acted like fathers for us.)  The winner will get to use a La-Z-Boy chair for the remainder of the service.  There is no cost to the raffle but you must be present during the announcements to win!  Big thanks to Langlois and Bob Dunning for helping with the arrangements!

Our Security is Never in Doubt!

Eugene Peterson has a great quote to help bring peace in times of uncertainty.  He writes, "All the persons of faith I know are sinners, doubters, uneven performers.  We are secure not because we are sure of ourselves but because we trust that God is sure of us."  Let us be sure of this today: God Loves You!  He will never give up on you!  Never!  (2 Timothy 1:12-14)

Sunday is Pentecost!

Busy Bags!

BUSY BAGS - Pam Serene needs your colorful cloth fabric so she can make some "Busy Bags" for children of guests at church.  We expect regular attenders to Celebration to know what their children needs to keep them occupied in the worship service.  Guests do not always come prepared.  These "Busy Bags" will hold crayons, paper, coloring pages, stickers, etc.  Talk with Pam so we can help out our guests.

SEVER WEATHER - This is West Michigan so weather changes all the time.  If a tornado watch or severe weather warning is in effect continuing one hour before any church event, we will cancel the event.  We will post the news on WZZM.  Pastor Matt lived in Minnesota for a while which makes him laugh at harsh weather.  He loves to ride in storms!  But if you don't think you can make it, do not fret.  We will see you at the next event.   

3. SUNDAY - How do you know if and how God is working in your life?  Join us in this series through Esther as we look for God's work even when he seems absent or powerless. Sunday: "When God is Working" (Read Esther 5-7)

4. CELEBRATION INVITE - Charles and Pam Serene would like to invite the Celebration family and friends to Sarah's Open House at church on Sunday, June 18 from 2:00-4:00PM.  She is graduating from Oakridge High School.

SUNDAY - Do you feel that God has been absent or on hold in your life, like he is distant in some way?  Join us in this series through Esther as God brings us through the times when we think God seems absent or powerless. Even in these times, when we think we have lost it all, God helps us realize how He is still in charge and actively moving in our lives.  Sunday: "When God Seems Powerless" (Read Esther 3-4)

Prayer Focus: Central African Republic

  • Pray for a peace that enables national resources to be developed for economic stability.
  • Pray for availability of more oral Christian materials for the largely illiterate population.
  • Pray for fully funded Christian education for nationals called to minister to their people.

Celebration Midweek - May 10

It is said "Every organization rises or falls on its leadership."  The Council is pleased to announce the following people for leadership positions at Celebration: Paul Pluger and Amie Anderson as Elders; Connie Cerminaro and Gayle Cohea as Deacons.  Plan on attending the  Annual Celebration Family Meeting on May 21 where we will consider these nominations.

  • Pray for couples trying to conceive.
  • Praise God for 15 children accompanied by their parents at the last Play to Learn class.
  • Praise God for 21 children in Oasis on Sunday morning!

  • Praise God for Robin Dykstra's transportation issues to be resolved well.
  • Praise God Jackie wasn't seriously injured when someone in a wheel chair fell on her.  The knee is sore but pray there are no complications.

Celebration Midweek - May 4

Today is the National Day of Prayer.  There are great events to bring prayer to the forefront of our lives.  The Prayer Breakfast at Maranatha Conference Center was wonderful given the wide variety of pastors, representatives from non-profit organizations, and government officials.  The biggest impact for me was the speaker said the National Day of Prayer needs to be every day!  We cannot be an active Church without an active prayer life.  Make time today to talk with Jesus as you continue throughout your day!

3. SUNDAY - "UNITED"  It seems we are more divided and fractured than ever.  But this was never how we were meant to be!  Invite a friend to join us as we begin our Sunday sermon series through the Apostle Paul's letter to the Ephesians with: "United For the World" (Ephesians 3:1-13).

4. BABY BASICS - Remember this ministry in your prayers and as you go to Garage sales this summer.  Their current needs are: baby lotion, baby wash, baby wipes, "receiving blankets, sweaters 0-12 month, socks, bibs, onsies,  clothes 0-12 month size.  Thanks so much for your help with this. A special thanks to Marilee Schut for the soft blankets she continually makes. It makes our gift to"moms in need" very special.  

5. PRAYERS

Prayer Focus: Cameroon

  • Pray for an end to widely held tribal spiritist traditions among Christians.
  • Pray for a moral government system to provide for the clean water, food, and health needs of the people.
  • Pray for a gentle transfer of spiritual leadership from Western organizations to national believers.
