Celebration Midweek - June 26

Thought For Today - CS Lewis was asked about what is most necessary for the Christian: Faith in Christ or good actions. He said, "It does seem to me like asking which blade of the scissors is the most necessary." May others see your life as an example of strong faith in Jesus that is visible in your good actions!

1. Reports - Do you have a report on your prayer commitments we made on June 8? Don't be modest! Sunday, tell others how God has blessed you in prayer during this time!

2. Garden help at McLaughlin Grows Urban Farm - Do you like to garden, but don't have a garden of your own? Are you curious about what is grown on our Urban Farm? Contact Mike at mike@communityencompass.org or call 231-728-3117 to set up a time to help out.

3. Prayers - Please pray for:
- Those on the Church Campout in Stevenville, MI.

- Couples and their children who are part of a divorce process.
- Reyes' mom, Zoila, who has come up with some medical complications.

Celebration Midweek - June 17

Celebration,
Brother Lawrence made a commitment: "That we should establish ourselves in a sense of GOD'S Presence, by continually conversing with him. That it is a shameful thing to quite this conversation, to think of trifles and fooleries."  Keep your conversation going all day with Jesus! Give a report on Sunday if you can!

1. Prayers - Please be in prayer for Jill Bennett as her mother passed on yesterday. Jill stated that her mom was in poor health and this was a blessing for her. She also stated that it is still difficult for her and her father who was married to her for 66 years. There will be a memorial service on Friday. Contact Jill for more details.

2. Homework? - I hope that you are continuing your month-long prayer commitment that we started 2 weeks ago. Which 2 did you choose?
- Keep a prayer journal
- Commit to pray on the hour
- Ask a new person each day how you can pray for them
- Each morning say: “God, what do you want me to do today?”
- Sign up and pray on the 24th for Muskegon and Muskegon County

3. Recycling - Each Sunday you are encouraged to keep the bulletin so that you are reminded to pray specifically for the needs that are listed on the back. However, if you do not wish to keep the bulletin, kindly place it on the table next to the doors on your way out. This way the bulletin can be recycled and we can re-use the Communication Cards. Thanks.

4. More prayer requests for the week- Please pray for:
- Summer vacation for our children. May the use of their time and energy be productive!
- The Beck's as they continue the adoption process.
- Pastor Matt's sister in law is still having difficulty with her coronary artery spasms and energy levels. She is on nitroglycerin and they hope that will help.
- Couples and their children who are part of a divorce process.
- Reyes' mom, Zoila, who has come up with some medical complications.
- Christians around the world being imprisoned and tortured for their beliefs. The mass killings of Christians in Iraq is just one location of many.
- Students (Jessica Ribbens, Osha Towers, and others) and adults going to Nicaragua for a mission trip at the end of this week.
- The SERVE Project that will be hosted at Calvin CRC in July. There is still a need for people with construction experience to serve as worksite supervisors.
- Paula Espinoza's friend Kim who is having difficulties selling her house and buying another one. Stress levels are rising!
- Lilia DuRose's mom in the Ukraine is having heart problems and health issues.

Celebration Midweek - June 4

Mike Straley and I attended the "Introverted Church Conference" today. One thing I took away is that on average only 25% of any church is Christ-Centered. This means that only 25% brings Jesus into every area of their life both inside or outside of church. The other 75% are in one of three categories: Exploring Christ, Growing in Christ, or Close to Christ. Where would you rank yourself?

1. Busy Sunday - Here is the schedule for Sunday:
- 9:00AM - Fundraising Team Meeting
- 10:30 - Worship
- Noon - Fellowship Team Meeting
- Noon - "Small Group With No Name" meets at Beck's
- 6:00-8:30PM - Sunday Night Youth Group - 6th-8th Grade students meet at Calvin CRC to go to the Dethlof's

2. Parking Lot - Hats off to Jim Ring and his team for getting the parking lot sealed and lined. YAY! Great Job Guys!!!

3. Sunday -
Most people pray in some way, shape, or form. However, why don't more people make it a regular habit? Why hasn't it become part of our everyday life? Invite a friend Sunday as we continue our series "How Do I...?" (Luke 11:1-13)

4. Other Events
June 8 - Love INC Fundraiser - If you do lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings on June 8, 20% of your bill will go to Love INC!
July 15 - Glenside Neighborhood's annual Ice Cream Social - The event will be held at McGraft Park in conjunction with the McGraft Park Summer Concert Series. A country western band, Silverado, will be performing that evening!

5. Prayer - Please pray for:
NOTE: Remember to pray for those listed on the back cover of the bulletin each week. We add new ones each week! ALSO, check out the Prayer Board between the bathrooms and write your own request for others.
- Brenda Grabinski who had her knee manipulated on Tuesday. The doctors are trying to get a better degree of flexibility. She is home now and will know how successful the procedure was within the week.
- Caren Stratton are having complications with her pregnancy. She is 30 weeks along.
- Families dealing with rebellious children.
- Duane Gray who has a mass in his throat that will require medical attention.
- Patients given dental care at Mission of Mercy this past weekend in Big Rapids. May the volunteers be blessed in their work of compassion and mercy as if they served Jesus himself.

Celebration Midweek - May 28

Thought for the day: The first question of the Westminster Catechism is: "What is the chief end of man?" The Answer is: "To enjoy God and glorify him forever." May today be another day that you enjoy our great God and glorify him with our words, actions, and our very lives!

1. Parking Lot - Ravana Seal Coat is resealing and lining the parking lot this as I type this email! YAY! Let's hope that the rain stays away!

2. Events

You will be able to learn more about human trafficking and purchase products made by those rescued. The event will be held on Saturday, May 31, from 2-5pm at Church in the City - 1128 Roberts Street, Muskegon. For more information, call Crystal at 231-683-6258.

July 15 - Glenside Neighborhood's Ice Cream Social - The event will be held at McGraft Park in conjunction with the McGraft Park Summer Concert Series. A country western band, Silverado, will be performng that evening!

3. Application - Here are the "SPACEPETS" from the Sunday sermon. Hopefully this will be a good guide to help you apply "God's Treasure" in the Bible to your life.  When you are reading your Bible, is there a...
- Sin to confess?
- Promise to claim?
- Attitude to change?
- Command to obey?
- Example to follow?
- Prayer to pray?
- Error to avoid?

- Truth to be believed?
- Something to thank God for?

4. Prayer - People to add to your prayer list are:
- Kennedy Bergman who is experiencing some severe medical issues that are very scary. She is scheduled for a CAT scan on Thursday, 05/29/2014.
- Those who are feeling the void from the passing of loved ones.
- Pastors as they prepare for bringing God's Word to his people this weekend.

- Our students who will be on summer vacation soon.
- Charlene Beck's grandpa is recovering at HOME.

6 Things to Know This Week

1. Pray Muskegon on Saturday - The 24th is our day to pray for Muskegon County. Contact Pastor Matt if you haven't signed up for a time yet.

3. Schools Out - There will be no Sunday School during the summer months. It will start up in the fall!

4. Sunday - New things are frustrating if you don't have someone to help you with those frequently asked questions. It's the same in your journey with Jesus. Invite a friend on Sunday as we start a new series "How Do I...?" as we continue to master some of the basic areas of the Christian life.

Celebration Midweek - May 14

One of my new favorite authors is Andrew Murray writes about putting effort into spending time with God: "In academic study or in athletics, every student needs determined purpose to succeed. Christianity requires, and indeed deserves, not less but more intense devotion. If anything, surely the love of Christ needs the whole heart." May we never give God only part of our heart!

1. Love INC Fundraiser - If you do lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings on June 8, 20% of your bill will go to Love INC! We attached a coupon in case you get hungry.

2. Pray Muskegon - We will continue to have the 24th of each month as our day of prayer for Muskegon County. Sign up at the info booth or contact Pastor Matt.

3. Sunday - This is a busy Sunday for a host of reasons!
- We will have Communion this Sunday! Use these few days to get things right with others before you celebrate being right with God. (Matt. 5:23-24)
- We will conclude our series "What's the Diff?" with a look at Islam.
- We will have our annual Spring Congregational Meeting after worship. We will select

elders and deacons as well as the revisions in our church bylaws. Attached are the revised bylaws with the proposed revisions in red print. The Elder candidates are Tom Dunning and Sandy Ring. The deacon candidates are Brandon Beck, Mike Straley, and Pam Williams.
- The Small Group With No Name will meet at the E-burg's for lunch after the Congregational Meeting.

4. Hot Dog Roast on June 1 - You won't want to miss this time to connect with new friends and re-connect with old ones.

5. Prayers - Please pray for:
- Our guests at Celebration lately. Wherever they are in their journey, we pray God's peace on them in their search for him and a church home filled with God's people.
- Those who care for parents as they proceed into the "winter years" of their lives.
- Continued prayers for Jim Ring at the loss of his mom recently.
- Thelma Bergman has a new great grand daughter. Just ask her for more details.
- Those who have bumps, bruises, or skinned knees and are basically in need of some TLC.
- Duane Gray as he continues to encounter health issues.
- For a pastor friend of Pastor Matt's who is under a lot of stress and is dealing with his internal issues including depression.
