Moving In!

There is something exciting about moving in.  What once was just another room becomes your personalized room when you have unpacked a few of your boxes and hung up some items on the wall.  That was today!

It started with a hunt for shelf space.  There was one bookshelf in the office but rumor was that there were others nearby.  Clearly there is an unwritten law at work in all work places.  If an item is not being used by the original owner for a few consecutive months, the item may be used by another person who lays claim to it.  I understand it and have sequestered several items into my possession over the years.  Not boasting, only stating the facts.  It makes sense that items are used and that they not gather dust until they are antiques.   The shelves that were used by the previous pastor were being used (quite well) to hold books in the library.  It took a small amount of work to place the books onto other shelves in the library and re-acquire the bookshelf.  The next stop was to get an unused bookshelf taken from my home to add to the two in the office.  Three bookshelves!

There was never a doubt that I would fill each shelf.  The writer of Ecclesiastes says "Of making many books there is no end!"  I think that I have most of them in my office!  Did I really collect them all over the years or did someone secretly mix them in with my boxes?  Actually, I have read most all of these books and have would love to find time to read many of them again!  Anyway, the shelves are filled and I have many more books on my reading list.  Some that I have read for school and need to reacquaint myself with the material at a deeper level.  Some I have never read.  I may write more about some of these books in the next few days.  Not having more than four TV channels makes this easier to accomplish!

The room will not be fully moved in until noon tomorrow or later but it was quite gratifying to hang the Chicago Bears clock on the wall!  It is my little way of making friends in the land of the Motor City Kitties.  I will send pictures when it looks more habitable.

Thought for the day: what is on the "bookshelves" of your mind?  What are you "reading" into your mind and soul?  Is it enriching your life or drawing you away from God? Does it build you and others up or does it only drag you and others down?  Hopefully you are satisfied and even proud of what you place on your bookshelves.  If not, get rid of those "books" and read something new!  If we are transformed by the renewing of our minds, we need to fill the "bookshelves" of our mind with something good!

Home Improvements

Officially I do not start as the pastor of Celebration Community Church until Thursday.  That alone has been a long journey and worthy of a long post someday.  Sometimes I do sit back and marvel at how I actually got to where I am today.  Anyway, it has been good to get a few things in order first.

Today, we looked at the home we are buying and made a list of things that need to get done.  We love the home still but there are more small things in need of improvement than we thought.  The kitchen linoleum needs to go ASAP since it is ripped.  Gutters need to be put up.  Every room needs a paint job!  Of course I would say that they need painting anyway because I love to paint!  I know, I need to see a doctor about this illness.  My thought is that by the end of the summer we will have the house where we want it to be.

Now if I was a good blogger and a seasoned pastor I would be able to transition the blog into a nice lesson about the potential that we all have to make changes in our lives.  It would state how keeping the picture of who God has made us to be and the picture of the future he has in store for us is infinitely more profitable than the messy picture of our pasts mistakes.  My hope is that I will get better at doing this.  Maybe I should get some people to follow this blog first!
